Features from Idea Sharin' Wednesday

Don't forget to enter the EdenFantasys giveaway for a $55 gift card

**************

Well I had a "fun" day of jury duty and taxes.  The good news is I don't have to go back for jury duty tomorrow.  They excused me for being too pregnant :)

Here are some features from Idea Sharin' Wednesday.  Entries were low, I hope we'll have more participation this week so spread the word!  The projects that were linked up were really great though, so it's still hard to choose just a few!

Cami from You Seriously Made That?! shares a free pattern for this beautiful crochet headband!

I found this adorable Activity A Day Vday Count Down Calandar at Delicous Ambiguity.  And since tomorrow is the first it's not too late to make one!

How delicious does this Caramel Caffe Mocha Cupcake look?  A little too delicious to be safe in the house, huh?  Find the recipe over at Inside BruCrew Life.

What better Valentine's Day present than some cute new lingerie?

EdenFantasys has loads of beautiful lingerie at super affordable prices!  They also sell just about anything you could possibly need to spice things up in the bedroom.

Now if you're thinking all of that stuff is a little out of your comfort zone you should know, there are lots of things to add excitement without making you feel uncomfortable.  The hubby and I recently purchased A Hot Affair (with your partner) board game and we love it!  It is meant to bring couples together mentally, emotionally, and physically.

They also sell candles, oils, lotions, gag, gifts, and more.  And right now they are offering a free gift with every purchase.  EdenFantasys is the perfect place to shop for a Valentine's Day gift for the hubby
Personally, I would much prefer online shopping for these items than venturing out into a store.  EdenFantasys is a safe, secure place to shop where you can control which items you want to browse.  It has become the only place I go to for lingerie and other such needs.

Want to win a $55 gift card to spend as you please?  Here's how to enter:

1) Stop by EdenFantasys and let me know how you would spend your gift card (1 entry)
2) Purchase something from EdenFantasys (10 entries)
3) Follow Women Who Do It All on Twitter, Feedburner, or Facebook (2 entries for each) - find links to these in my sidebar just under the followers section.
4) Blog about this giveaway (4 entries)
5) Display a Women Who Do It All button on your blog (3 entries)
6) Comment on one of my other posts (1 entry each, just be sure to also leave a comment here about it)
7) Promise to come back on Wednesday and link up to Idea Sharin' Wednesday. (2 entries)

Remember each comment is 1 entry so be sure to post as many comments as are necessary to get all your earned entries.  This giveaway will run for one week, with the winner being announced shortly after.  Thanks for entering!  Seeing your entries will be the highlight of my day because I'm stuck at jury duty :(

Valentine's Day Picture Frame Ideas

First of all, I would love to know what you all think about my new blog design :)

I've come across so many cute Vday picture frame ideas, I just have to share them.

I love this!  It turned out so cute and the tutorial looks pretty simple.  If you don't have a Cricut or Silhoute you could easily paint the words on with stencils.

How fun is that?  I love that you can use it year round too.  It would be cute with a picture of your little one in it.  And how fun to leave little notes for each other on it.  I had no idea it was as simple as spraying chalkboard finish on a picture frame.  Brandy gives a great tutorial, go check it out.

Another Valentine's Day Mantel

I can't help myself but drool over all the gorgeous Vday mantel displays out there.  Here's another one I love from Organize and Decorate Everything.

Cupcake Liner Valentine's Day Wreath

Wow, I love this.  So cute!  And it can't cost too much when it's made from cupcake liners.  I found it over at My Creative Departure.

Make Post-Processing Your Friend

It's amazing what you can do to improve a picture using photoshop or other photo editing software.  I use Photoshop CS for my professional imaging, but for most of my personal images I use picnik.  It's free if you only upload 5 pictures at a time, or pretty cheap if you want to upload unlimited images.  What I love about it is that it's super user friendly and you can do just about anything with your photos!

The first step I usually take is to try out the auto fix.  Sometimes I like it, sometimes I hate it and quickly hit the undo button, and other times it helps, but still needs more work.

I always mess around with the exposure, (levels is even better if you use photoshop cs) warmth, and contrast.  Sometimes I think my photo looks good, but once I start to lighten it or warm it up, I see that it was actually pretty dark and/or cold.

Especially in pictures of people, adding a little warmth is almost always good!  Everyone looks better with a little color in their cheeks.  See for yourself:

Brightening and warming a picture can make a big difference.  It's a good idea to mess around with those elements even when you think your picture is good to begin with because sometimes you'll be surprised how much better it can get.

If you do brighten your photo a bit, be sure to look at contrast too because brightening a photo tends to make it appear more flat so to counter that you would add some contrast.  The same holds true for pictures of things, here is an example from my subway art heart from yesterday:

There are lots of other tools for making pictures better after the fact, but in my opinion these three simple changes make the most impact.  Picnik has lots of other tools to mess with such as collages, adding text and borders, and other fun effects.

In a nut shell, post processing is your friend, use it!

If you have any more specific questions on this, I would love to hear from you :)

Free Vday Printable: 5x7 Subway Art Heart

I was feeling so inspired by some of the Valentine's Day subway art I've seen around so last night I decided to make some of my own to share with all my sweet readers.  I'm going to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of subway art until I saw the Valentine's Day versions.  The soft, warm colors and swirly, elegant fonts really balance the very streamline, modern feel of subway art.

You can download my free printable here.  And here's how to get it frame-ready:

1) Download the printable.
2) Copy the picture and paste it into a word document.
3) Print it onto a pink or purple sheet of paper/cardstock
4) Cut your paper down to fit into your frame.

The design is meant to be a 5x7.  I have mine in an 8x10 frame with a 5x7 mat.

I hope you'll all enjoy it :)

There will be prizes for two lucky contestants

You'll be able to choose either:

A custom made digital scrapbooking kit!  (That means you choose the theme- baby boy, trip to Europe, Valentine's Day, etc. and I make a scrapbooking kit for you)!  I am pretty new at this, but I've made a couple kits so far and they turned out quite good, if I do say so myself.

Free Canvases again

Canvas People are giving away a free 8x10 canvas again.  They did this several months back and I jumped on it.  They are offering it again as a Valentine's Day gift.  You do have to pay shipping and handling, which if I remember right is $14.95.  The cool thing is, if it's the same this time as last time, you can pay extra for a larger one if you want.  You still get the same amount of product for free.

Adjust your white balance!

1) Adjust your white balance!!!  Whether you  have a point and shoot or a dslr, you should adjust your white balance.  The steps for doing this are different for each camera, but it's not tough!

You can find out how to adjust yours by looking in your manual, doing a google search, searching for videos for your camera on youtube, or stopping by where you bought the camera or even a local camera store like Ritz Photo or Kits Camera and just asking them to show you.  I have used all of those resources at one time or another.

Don't worry about doing any manual settings, just keep it simple.  Most homes have incandescent lighting, so choose that setting if you are inside.  Some buildings such as offices and stores have fluorescent lighting so choose that setting under those conditions.  If you are in the sun choose the direct sunlight setting.  There should also be settings for shade and/or overcast conditions.

Doing this will ensure your picture doesn't have a wierd tint to it.  You will get nice, natural colors.

Here are some examples:

In the first picture I had forgotten to set my white balance.  Notice there is way too much pink and yellow in that picture.  If you let your camera adjust the white balance itself like many people do, you will often get a yellow tint to pictures taken inside.

Once again I had forgotten to adjust the white balance in the first picture and it is much too cold, with too much green and blue in the picture.

Bottom line, if you look at other people's pictures and wonder why the colors are prettier and more natural than your own, adjust your white balance before you take a picture!  Once you figure out how to do it you'll see it only takes a couple seconds.

I hope you guys will let me know if any of this is unclear or still leaves you with questions about white balance.

Valantines Day Banner Printable

I found this over at My Computer is my Canvas and I think it is SO darling!  Not only can you find the printables over there, but a really awesome tutorial for assembling the banner.

I really want to make one, but we are going to be moving (I know, we move constantly, don't we?) in two weeks so by time we get settled Valentine's Day will be over, but maybe next year.  And I though maybe some of you would like to make one.  Valentine's Day decorations are so pretty, I love to deck my house out for Vday almost as much as Christmas.

Crocheted Sock Monkey Hat and Baby Cocoons Anyone Can Make

I found a free pattern for this adorable sock monkey hat at Do Ah Diddy through Sarah at The Harrigan Howdy (who added the ear flaps and gives a pattern for that).

That got me thinking about these newborn cocoons I make:

Anyone can make these!  Many of you probably already know the trick, but if you don't you'll be shocked to hear how easily they can be made.

Pick up a Knifty Knitter from JoAnns or Micheals and follow the instructions for a hat, just make it WAY longer.  That's it!  You'll want to get the size meant to make adult hats, I believe it's the green one.

Then use a bulky weight yarn and follow the easy instructions in the pamphlet that comes with your Knifty Knitter.  I kept going until mine was about 21 inches long because you loose some length when you gather the bottom and it's better too long than too short in my opinion.

I love these things because babies are normally so happy and cozy inside them, you can get lots of great shots.  And if you've got a baby who can't seem to sleep through the commotion of the session, this always does the trick!

Happy Sunday :)

Book of Happy Accordion Mini Album

The hubby and I decided to make each other presents for Christmas this year.  This is what I came up with:

I have seen accordion albums done before and I thought it sounded like a fun project.  My hubby is in his last year of Engineering School and he also delivers pizza at a local specialty pizza place.  He loves both, but he has some long days.  I wanted to make him a "Book of Happy" full of pictures that I know will bring a smile to his face and random reasons to be happy scribbled all over.   I also included a list of the top ten reasons I love him.  It took some time to narrow it down and prioritize all his great attributes, but I know he could tell I put some real thought into it.

The funny thing is neither one of us ended up having our presents ready for Christmas, so I finished this one random night and left it on the windowsill of our bedroom where he would see it.  He happened to have one of those bad nights at work and came home really bummed out.  When he saw my present it cheered him up 100%!  I told him to keep it in his car so he'll always have it when he's having a bad day.

Here's the bubba enjoying looking at a book of pictures of mom and dad, and of course him :)

Side note: I love using Picnik to edit my pictures.  It's free and best of all it's all online so you don't have to download it to your computer.  If you want to download more than 5 pictures at one time you can pay a small yearly fee to be a preferred member, but most of their tools are available for everyone at no cost.  They have all the basic editing tools you need and lots of fun collages and other stuff.  It's fun to play around with!

Anyways, I didn't take pictures as I was making this accordion album, but it was super easy to I will type up a little tutorial for it.

So here's how to make it:

Supplies:
-Some cardboard
- 2-3 pieces of scrapbooking paper
- One piece of thick, poster sized paper
- Extra fine tipped sharpies
- Pictures
- Vinyl (optional for letters on cover)

Steps:
1) Cut two 6x6 inch squares of cardboard.
2) Wrap each square in scrapbooking paper (matching or not, mine weren't) just like you would a present.
3) Cut a 5 1/2 inch strip off the top of the long side of your poster sized paper.
4) You want each square to be 5 1/2 inches so take a ruler to your long strip of paper and mark 5 1/2 inches for however many pages you want in your book (mine had 5 pages- keep in mind with these books you fill the back sides too so that will give you 8 pages to decorate because two of them are glued to the covers.)
5) Fold along where you marked and cut off the excess at the end.
6) Glue the end segments to the front and back cover.
7) Put your book under a textbook for an hour or so to make sure the glue is dry and secure.
8) Decorate your book!

That's it, you can do whatever you like from here!  I cut out pictures and wrote with the sharpies.  I wanted mine to look very informal with things jotted here and there, but you could give your book a much more elegant appearance if you wanted.  Just plan your pages carefully and use a ruler to write straight.  I cut some vinyl with my Cricut for the title, but you could just as easily cut scrapbooking paper or print out letters and glue them on.

For those of you who don't have a Cricut, most scrapbooking stores have a cutting machine you can use for free if you buy your paper there, and it's not much more than JoAnn's or Micheals!  You may be limited on the size and font, but still, a very useful tool!  There are two scrapbooking stores around where I live, Scrappin' Peeps and Amy's Attic.

I hope my instructions were clear since I don't have any pictures to go along with them.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Photo Strip Hearts Valentines Day Decor

How darling is this?

The original idea and tutorial was posted over at Scrapper Girl.  I had never visited Scrapper Girl until today, but man was I missing out.  She has so many cute projects posted over there!

I saw the idea re-done a couple times over at eighteen25, which also I love.

This project is definitely going on my to-do list!  I don't think I'll get it done for this year with all the craziness we've got going on, but hopefully next year.

Free Formula

I came across this while I was browsing some of my favorite blogs today.  Enfamil is giving away a free 24 case of their pre-made formula bottles for infants.  I think you need to be pregnant, but I'm not positive about that.  Even if you plan on breastfeeding it's never a bad idea to have some of these in your food storage.  And if you have trouble getting the hang of breastfeeding (for first time moms, like I did) these are great for a backup while you're still getting adjusted.  All you have to do is call 1800-baby123 and give them your information and the coupon code: LA3960 NEW 11/10.  But you can read more details here.

I'm all about freebies right now beacuse the hubby and I recently re-evaluated our budget, and well, enough said, right?  And as you may remember, we are expecting our little surprise early April.  It's going to be another boy, which will be fun since they'll be so close in age.  I'm sure they'll fight plenty, but I hope they'll be best friends too.

Lindsey at Fitness for the Rest of Us just posted a $50 gift card giveaway to Eden's Fantasy.

And I'll be posting a giveaway on Monday for a $55 gift card to CSN Stores, so keep an eye out for it!
